Description

Who we are:

At Out&Back, we turn secondhand shopping for outdoor gear into a first-class experience. We pay for last year’s used, outdoor clothing, refresh it, and feed it into our online store. We have been in print and TV news for our presence in some Dick’s and Public Lands stores. We have a number of partnerships with well known brands in the works and we’ve even just completed our first acquisition. Our websites support online retail, brick-and-mortar (in-person) retail, and our warehousing operations.

Who we’re looking for:

We have an immediate need for a frontend developer to support several of our websites as well as to help deploy a new one. They would work with us to execute on designs and use the APIs that we deploy to support it. They should have at least five years of frontend development experience with a sense for solid design. The office is in Denver but the role will be remote. You may occasionally visit the office if/when you’re in the area.

**The ideal candidate: **

  • Has a passion for development and has the capability to bring amazing user experiences to life

  • Has worked in an early-stage startup before: they work hard, you can see how your changes actually affect the world, and it’s a more personal experience.

  • Has a passion for the outdoors and the outdoor industry

  • Wants to make the world a better, more sustainable place

  • It matters to them that they deliver the highest quality

  • Is familiar with modular JS development and unit-tests

  • Is familiar with code-review

**Job responsibilities: **

  • Work with the team to deliver requirements

  • Work with the team to design new frontend experiences, and periodically take the lead on designing prototypes

  • Work with other developers to triage and fix problems

  • Support several internal and external websites

  • Support our retail experience

  • Support our Shopify store

  • Construct customer email templates given assets and content

  • Be present during deployments so you can be there to see any issues when they happen and there’s a chance we can fix them immediately

**Job qualifications: **

  • Fluency in React, Javascript, and TypeScript

  • CSS and styling expertise (portfolio will be requested)

  • Excellent communicator who can connect effectively with both development, operations, and marketing teams

  • Legal right to work in the United States without a company-sponsored visa

  • Familiarity with pushing changes as Git commits from the CLI or development environment and then requesting approval for pull-requests in Github.

  • Extra credit: Experience developing and maintaining marketplace sites (e.g. support our Shopify store, but this isn’t required)

**What you can expect working at Out&Back: **

  • You’d be joining a startup: A true startup environment with all the energy and chaos that comes with it. We work to control the chaos and make it work for us.

  • You’d be joining the outdoor industry: We love the outdoors, outdoor gear and getting outside, and our small team’s culture embodies that ethos.

  • Location: We’re mostly remote with a small group in Denver. We’re scattered about the US but we’ve got a small group of us in the Denver area. While daily office visits aren’t mandatory, we do enjoy working together a few times a week at our rad office.

  • A place where your voice is valued and matters. We’re a small, yet mighty, team that works hard, plays hard and moves fast. Therefore, everyone has a seat at the table and delivers monumental value to Out&Back.

  • Competitive benefits: health, dental and vision insurance

  • 401(k) plan

  • Pay from: $110,000 a year

  • Mountain-time based hours (a 11a to 7p workday). We can discuss an earlier schedule if this doesn’t work for you.

  • Part-Time Fridays, where you can choose to work the first-half or second-half of Fridays during a normal week
