Description
The RC/LSA (Research Computing/Linux System Admin) is responsible for Research Computing throughout the Dodge Physics Complex. This position involves: management of a set of networked Linux machines; maintaining and adding specialized software and licenses;specing, ordering, and installing new systems and new disk subsystems into the network; interacting with and training of faculty and students; interfacing with both OU and CAS IT. This position provides unique solutions to unique problems in research, academics, and administration. This person sustains a high level of customer service while providing solutions and services to faculty and staff by utilizing IT best practices. Successful candidates will possess the technical expertise to administer servers/services/infrastructure, consult with departments regarding their needs, and provide user-facing support to resolve technical issues.
Job Requirements
Required Education: Bachelor Degree or equivalent combination of education/job related experience
AND 0-24 months of experience in a computer related field
Skills:
- Experience with a physical layer network; RedHat Enterprise Linux; DNS/DHCP; Linux Virtual Machine Management
- Good knowledge of networking and the ability to interface with enterprise networking team
- Administering servers, networks, and backup systems
- The desire to obtain new skills and work in a collegiate work environment
Certifications:
- None
Advertised Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to engage in repetitive motions, grasp and communicate effectively. May need to lift heavy equipment.
Departmental Preferences:
- 36 months of experience is preferred.
- Experience with scientific computing is a plus
- Linux server installation, configuration and administration (Redhat Enterprise, CentOS) RHEL 7 and 8
- Scripting in BASH, using Perl, Python, and managing Condor
Supervision:
- No Supervisory Duties
